Dallas TeleCollege
Dallas TeleCollege, the online college of the Dallas County Community College District, offers students access to a full range of college courses that lead to certificate and degree options without the boundaries of the physical campus environment. DCCCD is the largest undergraduate institution in the state of Texas, serving more than 64,000 students in 2007 on the campuses of our seven colleges.
Leveraging DCCCD’s 35-year history as a leader and innovator in technology-based distance learning, Dallas TeleCollege allows students to experience the college curriculum in their own environment using desktop and laptop computers, DVDs, CD-ROMs, the Internet, iPods, MP3 players and other PDAs.
Dallas TeleCollege is located in the R. Jan LeCroy Center for Educational Telecommunications, 9596 Walnut Street in Dallas, Texas, on the DCCCD Richland College campus. Named for the second chancellor of the DCCCD, the 28,000 square-foot Center also houses:
- Dallas TeleLearning, a premier producer of distance learning courses and products. Dallas TeleLearning is also the founder and operations manager of the Texas Consortium for Educational Telecommunications, a statewide group of post-secondary educational institutions using distance learning and educational technology.
- STARLINK (State of Texas Academic Resources Link), created in 1989 as a collaborative effort of all Texas community and technical colleges to provide statewide professional and organizational development, whose mission is to produce staff development programs via satellite and the Internet for the Texas Association of Community Colleges, as well as for member institutions around the country.
- A newly designed 3,600 square-foot conference center for corporate meetings, satellite uplinks and downlinks and Web and audio-conferences for small to large groups.
- Technical Help Desk Services that support more than 90,000 student, faculty and staff users yearly through our eCampus course portal system. Academic and Technical Services provide faculty training for eCampus and other distance learning tools and curriculum development for online courses.
- The DCCCD Channel, a 24-hour local cable television and fiber optic-delivered channel devoted entirely to promoting the DCCCD, broadcast to approximately half a million Dallas County residents.
